​WHAT IS MED VOICES?

MED VOICES is an independent project started by a group of enthusiastic young people with a vision of limitless possibilities. It is a platform for innovative and creative voices from the Mediterranean area that touches on a variety of interests, with the aim of fostering ‘thinking about change’ as the founding brick for creating actual change.Because we are aware of ‘the ripple effect’ of stories, and aware of the role that this effect has played in cementing people’s demands of justice and freedom in many countries in the last few years, MED VOICES is envisaged as a pool of narratives whose protagonists are innovation and creativity leaders that target change, through the means of media reports, interviews, news, and works or art.
THE MEDITERRANEAN:
THIS IS WHERE WE START

The Mediterranean is the inspiration of this platform. This region saw the hatching of early civilisations and knew the first major trade routes, linking together three continents, bringing to its banks a variety of ethnicities, languages , customs and visions.It is where women and men experienced the early mystical feeling that boundaries can be crossed, and where our ancestors sailed with their ideas, their faiths, and their inventions, without which civilization would have stopped at a dead-end.It is also where the earliest seeds of the most spectacular 21st century protests hatched in 2011, flying by contagion of stories from Tunisia, to Egypt, and swaying over several other countries in the Arab region, the Mediterranean region and the whole world.We designed MED VOICES as a project that imitates the way the Mediterranean has mediated between people and cultures, transformed the sense of space, and created a cohesive and compact sense of Mediterranean identity. We also envisage it as a platform where the crowds that engrained the seeds of 21st protest against greed, corporate capitalism and social injustice in the last few years, can channel their protests through stories.We’ve chosen to start with a regional focus, but and a wide range of interests, though in no ways is the project restricted to the Mediterranean. MED VOICES welcomes and encourages networking prospects and partnerships that bring together the initiatives of people from the Mediterranean area and others from beyond this region.
